Edition Notes
Imprint from colophon.
"Guyllaume michel" is named in the Privilege as author, and again in the colophon: "Guillaume michel dit de tours".
Le Noir's device on t.p.
Bâtarde letters, 32 lines, marginal notes, historiated initials.
Signatures: A-P⁸.
Woodcut illustrations feature banderoles with type-set inscriptions.
Brunet notes that the more frequently found 2nd ed., 1520, is an exact duplication of this obscure first ed. by the same publisher.
The author, in prose and verse, uses the chase and appropriate animals to exemplify the pursuit of a moral life fraught with the seven mortal sins and potential punishments for straying from the righteous path. Antoine Vérard appears to be the source of some illustrations.
Mouchon, P. Supplement de Thiebaud, column 1199, 1055
Brunet, III, column 1704
Binding of 19th century brown morocco, gold-tooled, fore-edge gilding, marbled papers, bookplates of Marcel Jeanson and H[enri] Gallice, both collectors of early hunting related works, Gallice an editor and translator as well.
