Holograph, signed.
Maria Weston Chapman requests a contribution to the Liberty Bell either in prose or poetry, "in German, Danish or English." She explains the purpose of the Liberty Bell. In the letter, Chapman refers to a "severe domestic calamity" which prevented her from making this request seasonably. [The "domestic calamity" referred to, was presumably the death of Maria Weston Chapman's father-in-law, Henry Chapman.]
Includes, accompanying envelope with the delivery address: To Harro-Harreng, Esq., Care of S. H. Gay, Esq., New York, 142 Nassau Street.
