First published Rome : Jac. Mascardi, 1628/1630. Second ed. published by Vitale Mascardi in 1648/1649 with engraved title by Johann Friedrich Greuter. Present copy may be from Deversini & Masotti's reissue of 450 copies of the 1628/30 ed., with date on Greuter's title altered to 1651; it retains imprimatur dated 1628 (p. [902]) in addition to that dated 1651 (recto of 3rd leaf). Some reissue copies have letterpress title: Nova plantarum animalium et mineralium Mexicanorum historia / a Francisco Hernandez ... primum compilata, dein a Nardo Antonio Reccho in volumen digesta ; a Io. (written over an earlier inscription): ...Joseph de la Mota. At foot of third leaf recto is ownership inscription of Vincencio José de Roa, pharmacist of Mexico City. Marginal annotations.
