Original edition; first announced to appear serially in the publishers' "American magazine and historical chronicle", but issued separately in numbers of 16 pages of text each with cover-title, and book announcements, "errata" notes, etc. on the other pages of the covers: v. 1, no. 1-36, March (?) 1747-May 1749; v. 2, no. 1-26 (?) 1750-1752. Titles and imprints vary slightly; the author's name indicated on the earlier numbers by the initials W. D. M. D. appears in full on no. 27 and the numbers following. Left unfinished at author's death October 1752; reissued in two volumes 1749-[1752]; and with additions (v. 2, p. 417-440 "from Mr. Salmon's Geographical and historical grammar, printed in London, 1757") Boston 1749-1753 [i.e. 1758]; London, 1755; London, 1760. cf. Evans, v. 2, no. 5936, 6126, 6306, 6490, and v. 3, 6662.
