Edition Notes

This book is to complete the biography of Walter H. Page. The materials concerning his work as ambassador were so abundant that they absorbed practically all of Mr. Hendrick's two volumes originally assigned for Mr. Page's "Life and letters", permitting the merest sketch of these fifty-eight years, here recorded, of his life in his own country during the era of the transformation of the Civil war South. cf. Pref.
