being an epitome of navigation; containing all tables necessary to be used with Nautical almanac in determining latitude, and longitude by lunar observations, and keeping complete reckoning at sea; illustratedby proper rules and examples; whole exemplified in journal, kept from Boston to Madeira, in which all rules of navigation are introduced; also, demonstration of usual rules of trigonometry; problems in mensuration, surveying, and gauging; dictionary of sea terms; and manner of performing most useful evolutions at sea; with appendix, containing methods of calculating eclipses of sun and moon and occultations of fixed stars; rules for finding longitude of place by observations of eclipses, occultations, and transits of moon's limb over meridian; also new method for finding latitude by two altitudes.
