"Lemos (b. 1920), a native of Lisbon, has lived in São Paulo since 1953. A pioneer of surrealism in Portugal, he gradually distanced himself from Breton and surrealism altogether and started producing humorous drawings in tune with new graphic alternatives. He published his b/w drawings in Revista Manchete, Revista da Semana, and Revista Sombra, some illustrating literary texts. The São Paulo Biennial played an important role in his life, and he, in turn, influenced many young Brazilian artists. Short biography included"--Handbook of Latin American Studies, v. 58.
