Polly Carlson-Voiles

Polly Carlson-Voiles lives with her husband Steve and her dog, Sally, atop an ancient rock in northern Minnesota where she can see for miles in any direction. Below, on Moose Lake, it is a short canoe paddle to the BWCAW. Her children’s writing and illustrations reflect the inspiration of living in this wild place. She enjoys learning daily about the brilliance of the natural world while hiking, canoeing, watching birds, bears, wolves and other wildlife, and she has a passion for sharing this love of nature with children.

Polly is a retired Minneapolis English and special education teacher, and, she says, "an secret aspiring amateur wildlife biologist." Her work with "lost and found children" and her interest in nature inform all of her writing. She is insistent that the biological and psychological information in her fiction be accurate and well researched. Polly believes nature is a source of healing and attachment and wants her writing to inspire children to experience nature more deeply as part of their growth an maturation.
