Domenico Carro

Domenico Carro, nato a Roma il 16.8.1942, ha frequentato le scuole francesi e l’Accademia Navale di Livorno, laureandosi in "Scienze marittime e navali", ed ha poi svolto l’intera carriera di Ufficiale della Marina Militare italiana, occupandosi prevalentemente di tattiche navali, di operazioni marittime ed interforze, oltre che di strategia e di problemi storici. Ha comandato la Flottiglia Corvette e l’Ispettorato dei Fari ed ha insegnato presso il Centro di Addestramento Aeronavale, la Scuola di Comando Navale della Marina e la Scuola di Guerra dell’Esercito.
A partire dal 1992, ha iniziato a pubblicare una ricostruzione organica della storia navale e marittima di Roma antica, al ritmo di un libro all’anno. Nel 1996, ha deciso di lasciare il servizio attivo, nel grado di Ammiraglio di Divisione, per dedicarsi interamente ai suoi studi romani. In tale ambito ha completato la sua prima storia navale (Classica, in 12 volumi), è stato coautore di un romanzo storico in francese (Le César aux pieds nus) ed ha pubblicato varie altre opere storiche (fra cui Maritima, Roma navale e Corazzata Roma), dieci manifesti divulgativi (Navales Tabulae), oltre ad un gran numero di saggi scientifici, articoli ed altri scritti minori, prevalentemente focalizzati sulla storia navale romana, riproducendo gran parte di tali studi nel proprio sito Internet «Roma Aeterna».
È membro dello storico Gruppo dei Romanisti e della Società Italiana di Storia Militare, ed è socio onorario di altri due sodalizi a carattere storico. Collabora occasionalmente con l’Ufficio Storico della Marina, di cui è stato Vicedirettore negli anni ’90.
