Elizabeth Hall was born in Bakersfield, California. She received her B.A. in English from Fresno State College and was working as a public librarian in Shafter, California, when she met and fell in love with the author Scott O'Dell. He encourage her to pursue writing, and her first children’s book, Micromegas, was published in 1967. She wrote four more books for children and then stopped writing to work as the Managing Editor at Psychology Today. In 1975, Psychology Today moved from California to New York City, and she relocated as well. In 1976 she left to found the periodical Human Nature. When that magazine failed, she began writing psychology and human development college textbooks.
In 1992, three years after the death of her husband, Hall completed his final novel, Thunder Rolling in the Mountains.
In 2002, Hall remarried and currently lives in Westchester County, NY.
