0 Born at Deori near Saugar, Madhya Pradesh, Shankar Balaji Shastri moved to Amravati and eventually settled in Nagpur where he taught languages at St. John's after an active literary career, part of which included lyrical compositions for the Balawant Sangeet Mandali, to be sung by Master Dinanth.  He was one of the first two non-christians in India to be awarded the "Bene Merenti" by the Vatican about the time of his retirement.  He translated several Bengali books in English and Marathi for the Sahitya Akademi, and wrote several novels and short-stories.  The published books number about twenty.
