Pierre Bost

1901 - 1975

Pierre Bost est un scénariste français né à Lasalle le 5 septembre 1901 et mort à Paris le 6 décembre 1975. Il utilisa jusqu’en 1945 le pseudonyme Vivarais.

Fils d'un pasteur, il passa son enfance au Havre. Élève à Henri IV avec Alain. Il rate l'agrégation.

Romancier, journaliste et auteur dramatique français, Pierre Bost débuta au théâtre du Vieux-Colombier avec une comédie : L'Imbécile, puis se tourna vers le roman dont ce premier titre.

Au début des années 1940, il écrivit un grand nombre de scénarios et de dialogues de films, souvent avec son complice Jean Aurenche, dont certains restent célèbres comme La Traversée de Paris, La Jument verte, Le Chemin des écoliers, etc.

Quelques années après sa mort, Bertrand Tavernier a tiré son film Un dimanche à la campagne de son roman Monsieur Ladmiral va bientôt mourir. Les textes, dits par la voix off du metteur en scène tout au long du film, sont extraits de ce roman, qui a été réédité par les éditions Gallimard en 2005 dans la collection L’Imaginaire.
