Howard L. Fields, one of America's leading experts on pain, is a neurologist and professor of neurology at the University of California, San Francisco. In addition to serving on the faculty of USCF School of Medicine, he is the director of human clinical research for the Gallo Center. His works include the 1987 text Pain: Mechanisms and Management; he served as editor of the 2nd edition of IASP core curriculum on pain, where his "very successful" format was retained in the current (2005) edition. Fields acquired his undergraduate education at Shimer College and the University of Chicago, and earned his MD and Ph.D. at Stanford University. (from Shimer College Wiki)
