Edition Notes

Holograph, signed with initials.

Edmund Quincy is sending Caroline Weston the "Voice from the Jail." In this letter, Quincy refers to the "Lays." [This is probably a reference to Macaulay's Lays of Ancient Rome, which appeared in 1842.] Edmund Quincy states that "Bro[ther] May's story of the 'Cannary bird' will no longer be regarded as a figment of an excited imagination."
