The Marquis of Broome walked deep into the stable. "Where are you?"
"I am... here," Cara replied.
He realized that she had climbed up into the hayrack. He walked to stand immediately below her and put up his arms. "I will not let you fall."
She put one leg over the side and leaned over her arms going out towards him to hold onto his shoulders, then she fell into his arms. He felt her arms go around his neck, and she said in a terrified whisper:
"They are... going to... kill you! Tomorrow night!"
He could feel her heart beating frantically against his. His arms tightened around her. "How could you come here? How could you do anything so incredibly . . ." He stopped.
Then, as he knew there was no need for word: his lips found hers and he kissed her. As he did so he knew that he was in love....
