About the Book

Contains 100 Chapters of life in Altoona, Pennsylvania from the 1940's and 1950's to some current events. Covers Altoona Little League, old local dance bands. Altoona High School musicals, local businesses and confectionary stores and reviews of Fairview, Logantown and Llyswen section of towns. Old neighborhood playgrounds and who used to hang out at them. You start reading this book and you don't want to put it down. This 2nd edition is now in print with over 400 pages. Copies are available for sale by the Author but readers can review the book at the Blair County Genealogical Society in Hollidaysburg, PA. and the Altoona Public Library. The Author has taken 100 Chapters, each Chapter being a complete story or subject in itself. Then he takes that personal family story or workplace happening and ties it into well-known individuals or events that took place with lots of photos from old newspapers etc.( with proper copyright permission). This is not your run-of-the mill, dry historical book of a bygone age. It's the Author, giving detailed experiences of how it was when you got out of bed and went out into the real world during the WWII Years and the 1950's & beyond.

Edition Notes

The cover of this book, reflects a cold winter photo of the Roman Catholic Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in downtown Altoona, PA. This magnificent structure has been the outstanding landmark in the skyline of Altoona, since it was built starting in 1926. Final construction did not end until the 1960's due to the depression and lack of funds by the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown.
