Philip Wardman's ideal of beauty is a statue of a minor Greek goddess, Flora, which stands in his widowed mother's garden. When he meets the living incarnation of the statue, a lovely, ethereal actress named Senta Pelham, he begins an affair with her. Unlike Philip, who has a neurotic fear of violence and death, Senta is fascinated with death and her distain for humanity leads her to propse an evil game for Philip to prove his love.
