Forty plates illustrating As you like it, Macbeth, Hamlet, Merry wives of Windsor, Much ado about nothing, Twelfth night, Merchant of Venice, Cymbeline, Winter's tale, and Romeo and Juliet (4 plates for each play) each with a leaf of quotation. Engraved by Charles and Isaac Taylor, jun. (one each by William Sharp and Joseph Thornthwaite) from drawings by Robert Smirke and Thomas Stothard.
Originally issued in ten numbers, each plate is individually dated from between 1783 and 1787.
