This is a report of address at the Faculty Conference in 1938. The Faculty of Teachers in Commerce was an examining body and professional association for teachers of commercial subjects in the United Kingdom right up to the 1980's which was a period when a range of bodies dissapeared or merged. It's closest sister or comparative body was The Society of Commercial Teachers which was very successful up until the early part of this (21st) Century but unlike the Faculty was not an examining body. Both moved on - changing their names to include the phrase 'Business Education'. The Faculty temporarily ceased but is revived as a Private Institution. The Society of Teachers in Business Education was also revived as a membership body and is an institutional member of 'The College of Teachers' in the UK and also partners with 'The Youth Development Association' to link into youth services.
The Faculty has a very long pedigree and history going back to pre-1900 and teachers associations founded in the 'Pitman dynasty'era and later these also became linked to the Society. Some of the history of these organisations is located in 'The Pitman Library' at the University of Bath and the rest is with the Faculty and Society office in Lincoln, England. Current information for teachers and youth workers wishing to engage or join is available on www.developmentandeducation.co.uk
