Edition Notes
"To Mr. Dryden, on his Cleomenes," by Theophilus Parsons: p. [11-12]
"Persons represented:" p. [16]
Prologue, epilogue and Dramatis personae precede the Life instead of the play.
The life of Cleomenes was translated from Plutarch by Thomas Creech, and owing to Dryden's illness, the fifth act of the play was completed by Thomas Southerne. cf. Dictionary of national biography.
First acted some time after May 1688; not performed again until mid-April 1692. cf London stage, 1660-1800.
