Edition Notes

Responsibility and date taken from Kitton, Frederic G. Dickens and his illustrators, 1972.

Plates were originally published in six parts in [1839] by Robert Tyas in "Heads from Nicholas Nickleby", with captions naming characters from "Nicholas Nickleby" by Charles Dickens. See McLean O 0432.7. Plates were "republished by Edward Lacy in 'The scrap book of literary varieties', the names of the characters being changed into brief descriptive titles, such as 'Minature painter' instead of 'Miss La Creevy.'" Cf. Kitton.

Includes [12] disbound p. of publisher's advertisements, (Robert Tyas), including: " ... This day is Published in Six Numbers, price Sixpence each, or the whole stitched in a stiff cover, price Three shillings, Heads from Nicholas Nickleby from drawings by Miss La Creevy ... ".

Plates are with pencil inscriptions naming associated characters in "Heads from Nicholas Nickleby".
