Edition Notes

Mechanically reproduced from typescript original.

Limited ed. of 25 copies.

"Report of work under contract no. W-670-ORD-4926."

Leaves are printed on the recto side only.

The text leaves for v. 2-5 (except for the unnumbered preliminary leaves) have hyphenated folio numbers prefaced by the individual chapter number.

The folded leaves of plates are charts and blueprints, numbered as "PX-n-m" (for a list of the variable values of "n" and "m", see the 2nd text leaf of v. 1).

SCDIRB copy of v. 1-4 (together with the 2nd copy of v. 1) was transferred to the Dibner Library from the NMAH Division of Medicine and Science (Computers and Mathematics) Collections.

SCDIRB has v. 1-4 from the original, limited edition (v. 1, c. 1 and v. 2 are both marked as "copy no. 19 of 25 bound copies of this Report"); also a second copy of v. 1 lacking the limitation statement; and a photocopy of v. 5.

SCDIRB copy of v. 1, c. 1 has [an original?] gray printed paperboard binding with black cloth spine, measuring 44 cm. in width. The plates are bound together, unfolded, at the back of the volume. The text and plate leaves had been attached to the spine with staples, which have since fallen out. This volume is shelved in the Folio section.

SCDIRB copy of v. 1, c. 2 has the original printed cream colored paperboard binding with brown cloth spine; the plates are interspersed through the volume and are mostly folded.

SCDIRB copy of v. 1, c. 2 has the name of its former owner, [Homé] Reitwiesner, handwritten on the front cover. Homé Reitwiesner and her husband George Reitwiesner both worked on the development of the ENIAC after it was moved from Philadelphia to the Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland in the late 1940s. According to NMAH curator Peggy Kidwell, this copy was received from Homé Reitwiesner.

SCDIRB copy of v. 2 has the original printed gray paperboard stapled binding with black cloth spine.

SCDIRB copy has v. 3 and v. 4 bound together (v. 3 is pt. 1, v. 1 of the Technical description of the ENIAC, including chapters I-VI; v. 4 is pt. 1, v. 2 of the Technical description, including chapters VII-XI), in a contemporary black paperboard "Accopress" binder with typed cover label and sliding metal clip.

SCDIRB copy of v. 5 (=pt. 2 of the Technical description) is a reduced size photocopy (18 cm.) made from the original mechanically-reproduced typescript edition, bound in black buckram with a white-lettered spine. There is a Smithsonian Libraries stamp on the t.p. Because of the quality of the photocopy. some of the text is faintly reproduced and hard to read in places.
