"The essay, 'America's conquest of Europe,' was prepared at the request of Senator Henri La Fontaine, and published simutaneously at Brussels in the French language under the title, 'Ce que l'Amérique peut enseigner à l'Europe.' The second address, entitled, 'World peace and the treaty of Ghent,' was delivered in English at a world congress of heads of secondary schools, held in Ghent, August 6, 1913."--Prefatory note.
