Title-page of third edition reproduced in facsimile in "Introduction."
"Of the four quires that make up this copy of The passionate pilgrim, B and D are from the edition hitherto called the 'first' (extant in the Trinity College and Huntington copies); the other two quires, A and C, are from another, and earlier, edition hitherto unknown ... The second edition ... bears the date 1599; in the absence of the title-page from the Folger fragment of the first edition we can not say positively whether it too was printed in 1599, or slightly earlier, in 1598 ... but in view of all the facts involved we seem warranted in concluding that the first edition ... probably appeared like its successor, in 1599."--Introd.
