About the Book
in
First Sentence
Publication of this book is the culmination of activities that extend across three generations and 150 years. The author, my grandmother, Mary Ann Markham Hansard, was born in Tazwell, Claiborne Co., Tennessee in 1825 and lived within a few miles of her birthplace until her death in 1899. Very early in life her memory began to record details of the lives of citizens who lived in the same community and of events such as the Civil War which affected the community as a whole, bout it was not until the last decade of her life that she decided to make a written record of the information she had obtained from living in Claiborne County for three quarters of a century.
