Each new case was treated with intense secrecy for it the people of Earth learned the cause of these deaths, a worldwide panic would surely ensue.

To David Starr, Space Ranger, these deadly incidents formed a terrifying pattern -- they were clearly part of a clever and brutal scheme by an alien conspiracy to cripple Earth's economic life and topple its government!

Die Erde des 7. Jahrtausends ist längst zu klein geworden. Andere Himmelskörper des Solsystems mußten kolonisiert und erschlossen werden, um die Versorgung der vielen Milliarden Erdbewohner mit Rohstoffen, Nahrungsmitteln und anderen Gütern zu gewährleisten.

Die Störanfälligkeit eines solchen Versorgungssystems ist groß – das zeigt sich besonders deutlich in dem Moment, als eine unbekannte Gruppe erstmals zuschlägt und das Leben aller Menschen gefährdet.

Die Attentäter arbeiten mit einem tödlichen Gift, das sie Nahrungsmittelimporten beimengen.

David Starr vom Wissenschaftsrat der Erde nimmt die Spur der Attentäter auf. Er fliegt zum Mars, um die Verbrecher zu stellen.
