About the Book
This work is an attempt to record the Tamilnadu coins prevalent during the ninth to eighteenth century AD. The period chosen is from the rise of the imperial Cholas to the establishment of the British Empire. The coins of the Vijayanagar Empire, which formed bulk of the coinage during the fourteenth through seventeen centuries are not covered. In this book, the coins of the Cholas, Pandyas, Kongu Cheras, the Nayaks of Madurai, Thanjavur and Gingee, Thanjavur and Gingee Marathas, Banas, Sethupatis, Sivaganga Rajas, Madurai Sultans, Nawabs of Arcot and the coins of minor Chieftains are covered. In all about 700 coin types are illustrated and described.
