Too bad this hasn't ever been reprinted!

This book is a little gem that, although outdated in appearance, is still a very useful introduction to what is now (in 2007) known as modular knitting. As a knitter for 51 years, I can attest to its usefulness even for an experienced knitter. The directions are very clear and teach in a step-by-step fashion not only the basics of knitting, but the means of designing one’s own patterns using nothing more than a pencil and square graph paper. It is especially useful for using odd balls of yarn, as the patterns suggested can be knit with a wide variety of yarn weights and needle sizes. Beware though, not every photo of a finished project represents a printed pattern in the book. Many photos are only for inspiration, and their directions were never written down, more’s the pity!
