First sentence: My purpose in this book is twofold: first, to provide an introduction to the key concepts, methods of research, and essential discoveries of the fields of human demography and human growth and development, and second, to show that demography and human growth are two closely related fields, indeed, that only by considering both simultaneously can we come to understand much of the biological and social history of the human population.
